Yorkton Minor Hockey offers hockey programming for players ages 5 thru 18.


U5 Division
YMH Under 5 division (also knowns as Timbits) designed for players who are five (5) or older by the end of the hockey season.  This FREE once a week, thirty (30) minute program runs at the Yorkton Kinsmen Arena, from October thru March each year.  At minimum, players are required to have a helmet with cage and sticks. It is recommended that players also come with shin pads, hockey socks, elbow pads, gloves, hockey stick, and support cup/ pelvic protector.  Optional equipment includes: hockey pants, shoulder pads, neck guard, and hockey bag.

U7 Division
YMH Under 7 division is for players who are five (5) and six (6) years old and is aligned with Hockey Canada's cross ice programming to encourage fun while teaching basic skating, puck handling and game skills.  This programming runs October thru March.  Registration fees cover hockey insurance and minor hockey costs.
The U7 division hosts one home tournament the first weekend of March, the proceeds of which cover the ice fees for the entire season.  All player guardians are expected to participate and volunteer for this home tournament by organizing the tournament, working the game shifts, working raffle tables, etc.  

Required equipment for this division includes:  shin pads, hockey socks, elbow pads, gloves, hockey stick, support cup/ pelvic protector, hockey pants, shoulder pads, neck guard, hockey bag and practice jersey.  Players wishing to try the position of goal tending will be able to use equipment supplied by Yorkton Minor Hockey.

U9 Division
YMH Under 9 division is designed for players who are seven (7) and eight (8) years old and is aligned with Hockey Canada's half ice programming to encourage fun while reviewing and refining skating, puck handling and game skills.  Following player evaluations early in the season, this programming runs October thru March.  The YMH U9 league allows teams to play half ice hockey games against each other locally at the following rinks:  Kinsmen Arena, Westland Arena, Theodore Arena, Bredenbury Arena and Saltcoats Arena.  Registration fees cover hockey insurance and minor hockey costs.
The U9 division hosts one home tournament each year. All player guardians are expected to participate and volunteer for this home tournament by organizing the tournament, working the game shifts, working raffle tables, etc., to make this a successful fundraiser for the YMH U9 teams to help cover annual ice and officiating costs.

Required equipment for this division includes:  shin pads, hockey socks, elbow pads, gloves, hockey stick, support cup/ pelvic protector, hockey pants, shoulder pads, neck guard, hockey bag and practice jersey.  Players wishing to try the position of goal tending will be able to use equipment supplied by Yorkton Minor Hockey.

U11 Division
YMH Under 11 division is designed for players who are nine (9) and ten (10) years old and is focused on development of players by refining player abilities to develop and refine fundamental movement skills (skating, turning, acceleration), manipulation skills (shooting, puck control, passing) and overall motor skills (balance, coordination, agility) in a fun and safe environment which promotes skill development.  Players engage in practices and full ice games.  Registration fees cover hockey insurance and minor hockey costs.
YMH offers skill-appropriate programming allowing players who are interested to try out for, and possibly play for, a tier 1 YMH team.  This “AA” team plays their games in the South East Minor Hockey League (SEMHL
In addition, YMH strives to create skill balanced “B” teams, all of which will participate in the Major Hockey League (MHL-U11)
The U11 “B” teams work together to hosts one home tournament each year. All player guardians are expected to participate and volunteer for this home tournament by organizing the tournament, working the game shifts, working raffle tables, etc., to make this a successful fundraiser for the YMH U11 teams.

Required equipment includes full hockey gear.

U13 Division 
YMH Under 13 division is designed for players who are eleven (11) and twelve (12) years old and is designed to further improve individual skills and introducing and practicing team play.  Players engage in practices and full ice games.  Registration fees cover hockey insurance and minor hockey costs.
YMH offers skill-appropriate programming allowing players who are interested to try out for, and possibly play for, a tier 1 YMH team.  This “AA” team plays their games in the Saskatchewan AA Hockey League (SAAHL-U13)
In addition, YMH strives to create skill balanced “B” teams, all of which will participate in the Major Hockey League (MHL-U13)
The U13 “B” teams work together to hosts one home tournament each year. All player guardians are expected to participate and volunteer for this home tournament by organizing the tournament, working the game shifts, working raffle tables, etc., to make this a successful fundraiser for the YMH U13 teams.

U15 Division 
YMH Under 15 division is designed for players who are thirteen (13) and fourteen (14) years old and is designed to introduce players to contact hockey, further improve individual skills and practicing team play and strategies.  Players engage in practices and full ice games.  Registration fees cover hockey insurance and minor hockey costs.
YMH offers skill-appropriate programming allowing players who are interested to try out for, and possibly play for, a tier 1 Sask East AA team.  This “AA” team plays their games in the Saskatchewan AA Hockey League (SAAHL-U15)
In addition, YMH strives to create skill balanced “B” teams, all of which will participate in the Major Hockey League (MHL-U15)

YMH Under 18 division is designed for players who are fifteen (15), sixteen (16) and seventeen (17) years old and is designed to further refine team play and strategy.  Players engage in practices and full ice games.  Registration fees cover hockey insurance and minor hockey costs.

Optional Programming
Each year Yorkton Minor Hockey strives to provide optional programming for its membership.  (Pricing varies by program.)

For the 2023-2024 hockey year the following programs are being offered:

Preseason 3 on 3 - U9, U11 and U13 preseason 3 on 3 - 6 games per 6 player team.
U15 Contact Readiness - U15 players preseason contact readiness on ice practice session
Hockey Skills Program - Five (5) one hour on ice sessions improving hockey skills through a variety of drills with a focus on skating,
Conditioning Camp - Three (3) pre-season 75 minute ice sessions to prepare for the upcoming season 
Pre-Season Goalie Development Program - Pre-season ice sessions for goalie development - registration required
In-Season Goalie Development Program - In-season ice sessions for goalie development - registration required
